v0.1.3 - Breaking news, a clearer build menu, and settings

What shipped in the Level 1 demo's v0.1.3 build: random breaking-news events, renamed and tagged power and cooling pieces, a Water Reserve that finally does something, in-game help, and a settings screen.

The v0.1.3 build of the Level 1 demo is out. This one is mostly about making the site easier to read and adding a little life around the edges.

Breaking news

Every ten days the world now throws a breaking-news event - good or bad - that scrolls across a small ticker in the bottom-left, read out by our very serious news anchor. For now these are flavor; a later build will let each event actually move your money.

A build menu you can read

The power and cooling pieces were confusing - three things in the COOL tab all sounded like “cooling.” So we renamed them and tagged every piece by what it actually does:

  • CAPACITY - counts toward what your hall needs (Cooling Unit, Grid Feed, UPS Battery, Backup Generator).
  • PATH - a second distribution route, required for the higher Uptime Tiers (Power Path, Cooling Path).
  • RESERVE - a buffer (Water Reserve).

The tags are colored, but always carry the word too, so they read regardless of how you see color.

The Water Reserve does something now

It used to cost money and do nothing. Now a Water Reserve buffers a cooling failure: if a Cooling Unit drops, the reserve keeps the hall running for a short grace window - buying you time to repair it - before the site goes down.

Learn it in-game

The in-game HELP screen now explains the Uptime Tiers (what each step needs) and the piece types, so you don’t have to guess. There’s also a new Handbook on this site with the full reference.

Settings

A proper settings screen: toggle sound on or off, and pick your menu size (Small / Medium / Large). Your choices are saved and survive a restart. The main menu also got the two-column rebuild with real save slots.

Next up we start wiring real effects onto those news events. Onward.
